PetroKazakhstan has always been trying to replace its production with new commercially valuable discoveries of fields. For instance, the Company continues to implement its exploration program, thus remaining the only large oil company operating in South-Turgai basin obligated to continue this program for complete utilization of the potential of the region.


Currently there are 16 oilfields on the PKKR’s balance. Out of them six are developed (Kumkol South, South Kumkol, Aryskum, Kyzylkiya, Maibulak and North-Western Kyzylkiya), two of them are in pilot production (Tuzkol and North Nurali), two more are prepared for the commercial development (Eastern Kumkol and Doshan), and six are on the exploration stage (Karabulak, Western Karabulak, Karavanchi, Western Tuzkol, Taskudik and South-East Doshan).


The 52 deposits are identified on the above listed oilfields, most of the oil and gas reserves are referred to the productive horizons of the Cretaceous and Upper Jurassic period. The overall PKKR wells’ stock is 853, out of them 482 wells are in operational-production fund and 229 wells are in injection fund. The main types of the Company’s oilfields operation are artificial and flow lift. The Kumkol, South Kumkol, Ariskum, Maibulak and Kyzylkiya oilfields are developed by maintaining of reservoir pressure through water injection.


In 2010, 92 wells were drilled for the oil and gas reserves evaluation on the developed oilfields, among them 79 operational and 13 appraisal. According to the report of independent appraisal company Gaffney, Cline & Associates, total PKI oil reserves on      1Р category on 31 December 2010 were 268.36 mln. barrels of oil. Average daily oil production is 9300 tons.
