Built in 1985, the Shymkent Oil Refinery is the newest oil refinery in Kazakhstan, currently providing about 30% of all oil products in Kazakhstan. The Shymkent Oil Refinery is the only oil refinery in the south of Kazakhstan, the most densely populated part of the country. Due to its favorable geographical location and high technical capabilities, this enterprise is able to make domestic and foreign supplies. The designed capacity of Shymkent Oil Refinery is 5.25 million tons, or about 40.65 million barrels of oil per year. The refinery processes crude oil provided by PKKR and tollers’ oil. The refinery produces various grades of petrol (A-80, A-85, A-92 and A-96), diesel, aviation kerosene, liquid gas, vacuum gasoil and fuel oil. PetroKazakhstan oil products are of a high quality thanks to the professional and highly technical refining process, and the exceptionally high quality of Kumkol oil. In 2010, the total volume of processed oil amounted to 4.58 mln tons (while planned 4.1 mln tons), which was significantly higher than results of the last year when the total volume amounted to 4 mln tons.


The certification audit was performed in the company, the integrated management systems integration is conducted in its framework for the compliance with the ISO 14001:2004 standard and requirements, listed in the Guidelines, documented procedures and other guiding documents for the ecologic management system. All the enterprise’s divisions, covered by the audit plan, were audited: acceptance, storage, oil refinery and oil products manufacturing. Technical and environmental aspects and environmental legislation, regulatory orders and other fundamental documents were taken into account during the audit. As a result the auditors’ team positively evaluated the enterprise’s activities on ecologic management system implementation in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001:2004. Specifically, they emphasized good environmental indexes and operational control monitoring, fine work of the plant laboratory, safety provision, perfect condition of loading/unloading rack, works on the plant’s treatment units operability maintenance  and their reconstruction for the implementation of the discharge-free system. By results of the certification audit the management of the Company received a certificate to conform that ecological management system of PKOP complied with ISO 14001:2004 standard for the processing, transportation and storage of oil and oil products.
